Biography
Formed in 2005 by New York natives Peter Block and Caleb Sherman, Porter Block operated as a power pop duo whose XTC-inspired sound recalled the work of both Fountains of Wayne and Ben Folds Five. Each musician already possessed considerable experience when the pair began their partnership. Block had previously supplied music for commercials and films while also teaming with Dean & Britta, the former members of Luna, along with ADM, known as Lordz. Sherman, for his part, had established a production career across Nashville and New York. Drawing on those combined songwriting and production skills, the duo issued their debut full-length album, Suburban Sprawl, via Engine Room Records in 2006.
