Powersurge

Powersurge operated as a Tampa-based heavy metal ensemble whose derivative and somewhat leaden strain of American power metal came across as a pale echo of peers such as Queensrÿche, Crimson Glory, and Fifth Angel, offering little prospect for lasting impact. Formed in 1984, the five-piece lineup of vocalist James Marra, guitarists Eddie Rice and Todd Boese, bassist Todd Dyer, and drummer Rudy Goryance—who had taken over from the curiously named Hal Loo—issued its first recording, the 1986 EP Elements of Metal, before scraping together two long-players, the self-titled Powersurge in 1991 and Snow God in 2002, all while encountering broad apathy that extended even inside heavy metal circles.
