Biography
Drawing influence from the Who and Hüsker Dü, Press Club formed in 2016 as a four-piece alt-rock/punk group based in Melbourne, Australia. Vocalist Natalie Foster, guitarist Greg Rietwyk, bass guitarist Rufio MacRae, and drummer Frank Lees came together after the breakup of their previous bands. The quartet spent 2017 composing new material and playing shows across Melbourne, steadily building a larger and devoted local following. Their single “Suburbia,” along with the loud and brash track “Headwreck,” attracted airplay on multiple Australian radio stations in 2018, resulting in bookings at the NYE on the Hill and Falls festivals. In mid-2018 the band recorded its debut album in Brunswick, committing everything to tape and using only analog equipment to emphasize the raw and incendiary qualities of the sound. Following performances in Australia and the U.K., they released the LP Late Teens in January 2019. Early that year they toured with the Smith Street Band, then returned in August 2019 with the second album Wasted Energy, which included the song “Thinking About You.”
