Biography
Following the 2000 breakup of Pavement, guitarist and songwriter Scott "Spiral Stairs" Kannberg launched Preston School of Industry without delay. The lineup featured drummer Andrew Borger, previously associated with Tom Waits and the Moore Brothers, along with bassist Jon Erickson, also from the Moore Brothers. Upon unearthing an archive of unreleased songs originally considered and then set aside during the Terror Twilight sessions, Kannberg guided the trio through arrangements and studio work for a first album. Matador, the label tied to his prior group, issued the resulting All This Sounds Gas in August 2001, after which the band completed a tour across the United States. Outside these activities, Kannberg maintains the independent Amazing Grease Records imprint, which has released material by Oranger, Carlos, Sunless Day, Cole Marquis, Aaron Nudelman, and the Moore Brothers.
