The dark electro outfit Pro Forma consists of Paul Thomson on vocals and drums, Victoria Henderson on bass and vocals, and Simon Henderson on guitar and vocals. Their origins trace to Glasgow, where the three began developing a sound steeped in post-punk influences during 2000. In 2002 they issued a four-track 12'' through Optimo's OSCarr imprint. Thomson's tenure proved brief, as he exited by year's end to devote himself entirely to Franz Ferdinand. Guitarist Robert Johnston and drummer Will Bradley, both previously of Life Without Buildings, entered the lineup in 2003, though Bradley was soon succeeded by Colin Kearney of Eska. Material recorded by the founding trio appeared on the self-titled mini-collection released by the U.K. imprint Tsk!Tsk! in fall 2004. By 2005 work had begun on a follow-up album, yet ongoing personnel changes continued to affect the group. Johnston's departure came after a performance in Dundee in late January.
