Biography
In 2009 the Toronto quartet Programm began life under the name Volcano Playground, with bassist/vocalist Jackie Game, guitarist/vocalist Jacob Soma, keyboardist Mark Game, and drummer Andrew Reesor completing the lineup. Their material blended shadowy electronic indie pop with pronounced traces of shoegaze, post-punk, psychedelia, and Krautrock. The musicians maintained a busy live schedule across the Toronto region, sharing stages with Deafheaven, Titus Andronicus, and assorted local groups. Scion’s 2014 double 7" compilation Discovery Series, Vol. 1 contained the Programm track “Like the Sun.” The Hand issued the EP Like the Sun, produced by Alexandre Bonenfant, in early 2015; the same producer later guided the band’s first album, A Torrid Marriage of Logic & Emotion, which surfaced in 2016.
