Projexx, the grandson of pioneering dancehall producer King Jammy, channeled his family legacy into a distinctive fusion of Jamaican rhythms as a singer and producer from Kingston. Born and raised in the Jamaican capital, he passed the bulk of his teenage years immersed in recording sessions with his talented relatives, absorbing production techniques and performance skills directly from his grandfather King Jammy and his father Lloyd “John John” James. After sharpening his abilities both as a vocalist and a beatmaker, he launched his recording career in 2018 via the understated R&B cut “The Vybz,” the hopeful “Gifted,” and the dancehall-rooted “Do It Everyday,” and soon appeared on his uncle’s joint project King Jammy Presents Dennis Brown: Tracks of Life. Building on the momentum of his dancehall-leaning output, he strengthened that direction throughout 2019 with releases such as “Rise Man a Rise,” “Vivid,” and “Miami.” A string of high-profile endorsements turned 2020 into his breakthrough year when his earlier material drew the interest of Nigerian singer WizKid and British-Ghanaian producer Juls, resulting in their joint single “True Love,” the ninth track on WizKid’s widely praised Made in Lagos LP. Following the November 2020 arrival of his first mixtape Fully, Vol. 1, Warner offered him a deal the next month. Backed by global fans and a major-label contract, Projexx spent 2021 broadening his discography, scoring traction with “Sidepiece” and Juls’ “Chance” just prior to unveiling his debut EP Queen Hill.
