Biography
Formed in Brooklyn, the post-punk-tinged trio the Prosaics draws on a brooding atmosphere and features vocalist/guitarist Andy Comer, bassist Joshua Zucker, and drummer William Kuehn. Comer, who had previously performed with Tel Aviv, encountered Zucker through a mutual acquaintance in early 2002, after which the pair started shaping early demo recordings. Those song sketches circulated on cassette to Kuehn, whose background includes time spent in Rainer Maria. Refining a joint approach to songwriting, the three-piece began performing around New York by summer 2002, earning favorable notice from local observers. New York Magazine placed the band on its list of the city’s “25 Best New Bands,” while later appearances alongside the Liars, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Rapture further solidified their standing. The group issued its first EP, Aghast Agape, through Dim Mak in fall 2004.
