Psalmist Raine

Gospel artist Psalmist Raine first exercised her vocal abilities in childhood, making an initial appearance at age six on Chicago's Isabelle Joseph Johnson weekly Sunday morning radio show and returning a couple of years later to Gatling's Radio program. A lifelong Chicagoan, she kept performing with church and community choirs while completing her schooling and while enrolled at Louisiana's Grambling State University. Greater involvement in the gospel music industry brought work with an array of singers and instructors such as LeCresia Campbell, Lonnie Hunter, and Cynthia Nunn, along with tours and stage appearances as a member of the Emmett Till Players. At the same time she began shaping a career as a solo performer and songwriter, issuing her debut album, Believe Again: The Live Experience, in 2013. Nominated for a Chicago Gospel Music Award, that release raised her visibility and led directly to the 2016 follow-up ReFresh Worship Live, a dynamic recording issued by her own ReFresh Worship Institute. The project, taped at Chicagoland Christian Center Embassy, constituted a distinctive worship event that remained almost entirely improvised after the opening track. Her third album, 2017's To Abba, continued in the same vein with its emphasis on spontaneous worship music.
