Biography
Originating in London, the psych-pop ensemble Psychic Markers initially formed as an informal collective drawn to psychedelic sounds, later evolving into a polished cosmic pop outfit. The lineup comprising Alannah Ashworth, Lewis Baker, Steven Dove, Leon Dufficy, and Luke Jarvis had previously participated in separate musical projects, occasionally across international borders. United by a shared passion for psych music, they would intermittently collaborate on tracks whenever opportunities arose, yielding their understated first release, Scrap Book No. 1, during 2014. Extended periods of live performances together solidified their fundamental style, evident in the refined follow-up Hardly Strangers from 2018. Despite an ongoing creative drive prompting initial work on a third project in 2019, the band's eponymous album issued in 2020 emerged as their clearest artistic statement so far, merging electronic and filmic components alongside engaging psych-pop sensibilities. Isolated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Dove and Dufficy exchanged musical files remotely from their respective locations in London and Paris amid the lockdown periods. This exchange facilitated the assembly of their fourth full-length effort, Blue Dreams or Sucre de la Pasteque, which marked a minor departure from prior material since each handled writing and production for one half prior to combining their contributions.
