Manuel Anós, operating under the Psyk moniker, has maintained a steady output of atmospheric yet hard-edged techno on imprints including Figure, Semantica, and the Non Series label he founded. Raised in Madrid, the producer developed an early passion for electronic sounds during adolescence. Barred from clubs by age restrictions, he joined friends in staging unsanctioned outdoor parties beyond the city limits. His focus later narrowed to techno, drawing from the sparse, hypnotic approaches of Steve Rachmad, Plastikman, and Basic Channel as he pursued maximum impact through minimal sonic components. The Psyk alias debuted in 2009 via the digital EPs “Phant” on Konstructure and “Quimic” on Sleaze. Enemy issued his first vinyl release, “Cubes,” which prompted Len Faki’s Figure to commission the 2010 single “Throes,” a track defined by its lean, functional dancefloor drive and detailed atmospheric textures. Releases followed in 2012 across Drumcode, Figure, the newly established Non Series, and Luke Slater’s Mote-Evolver imprint. The latter issued Psyk’s first album, Time Foundation, in 2014; the record refined his palette with greater cohesion while retaining its core club emphasis. Subsequent material appeared on CLR, Fuse, Semantica, and Berlin’s longstanding Tresor, which released the follow-up album A Moment Before in 2019, further distilling the sound into its most economical form to date.
