The origins of Puracane trace to 1999, when Ali Rogers took on vocals and David Biegel handled programming and production for their initial collaboration. Their first album, Things You Should Leave Alone, appeared on the acid jazz imprint Ubiquity in 2000. Later that same year Rogers steered the project away from its studio-only format toward a live ensemble, and the band spent the following years on tour alongside Sting, Jane's Addiction, and Depeche Mode. In 2006 the group issued the self-released In Limbo, a set of tracks assembled by assorted combinations of members while the act was on hiatus. At that stage Puracane consisted of Rogers, Juan Masotta on guitar and electronics, Drew Thurlow on bass, and Andrew Griffiths on drums. An official follow-up album remains in preparation.
