Vancouver-based Pure, who first performed under the names After All and Grin Factory, secured a contract with Reprise/Warner in 1991 after submitting their demo recordings. The lineup of vocalist Jordy Birch, guitarist Todd Simko, bassist Dave Hadley, drummer Leigh Grant and keyboard player Mark Henning issued the four-song EP Greed in 1992, followed later that year by the full-length debut Pureafunalia. Once the track “Greedy” appeared on the Cool World soundtrack, the group entered a period of inactivity before resurfacing in 1995 with Anything Test; Generation Six-Pack arrived the next year. By the release of Feverish in 1998, Henning and Grant had left the band, and drummer Jim Hobbs had taken Grant’s place.
