Biography
Forming initially in 1983 as Curse Toast, the California modern rock outfit Pushcar emerged when songwriting partners Chris Farrell and Jim Saunders transitioned from campus gatherings to establish themselves among the leading SoCal bar bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Anthony Mondello came aboard in 1990, resulting in a self-titled debut three years afterward, while Two Words arrived in 1996. Curse Toast also put out Silver Spork that year, earning modest college-radio rotation before the group split in 1998. Saunders meanwhile divided his schedule with the hardcore act Second Thoughts. Pushcar took shape amid those developments as Saunders and Farrell reunited, Mondello switched to guitar, and Damon Marshall entered on drums as the new member. Apartment D, the group's first release, came out in that same year. Early 2001 brought Round Sound, an album likened to the style of Olivia Tremor Control and Radiohead.
