Qow Trio, whose name is voiced as "Cow Trio," draws together jazz players spanning three generations around a shared passion for the pianoless saxophone trios that Sonny Rollins committed to tape during the 1950s. The group first appeared on record with the album Qow Trio in 2020 and returned four years later with The Hold Up.

Drawing its title from a Dewey Redman piece and rooted in Brighton, U.K., the ensemble comprises saxophonist Riley Stone-Lonergan, bassist Eddie Myer, and longtime drummer Spike Wells. The Irish saxophonist Stone-Lonergan performed in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and cut tracks with ensembles such as Perpetual Motion Machine, while Myer has maintained a long-standing role in the rock outfit Turin Brakes and collaborated with Sia, co-authoring her 2018 track "The Girl You Lost to Cocaine." Wells, active on the London scene since the closing years of the 1960s, has accompanied Tubby Hayes, Bobby Wellins, and Peter King along with such figures as Dexter Gordon and Stan Getz.

Formed in 2020, the trio issued its inaugural single, "Qowfirmation," toward the close of that year. Early in 2021 it unveiled the debut album Qow Trio, an effort built largely around interpretations of material associated with Charlie Parker, Cole Porter, and Joe Henderson. The follow-up, The Hold Up, surfaced in 2024 and balanced renditions of works by Big John Patton, Lee Morgan, and additional composers with an expanded selection of original pieces from Stone-Lonergan.
