Biography
An Australian producer of indie electronica, Qua maintains ties to Mush Records while residing in Melbourne under the birth name Cornel Wilczek. His debut full-length arrived in 2002 as the electro-acoustic Forgetabout on Surgery Records. The follow-up, Painting Monsters on Clouds, appeared on the same imprint two years later. During this period Wilczek lent his hand to the second album by Australian indie pop stars Architecture in Helsinki, the widely praised In Case We Die from 2005, and likewise to Clue to Kalo’s One Way, It’s Every Way, the Mush Records act’s sophomore release that same year. Qua’s third album, Q&A, surfaced in 2008 on the Love + Mercy label and incorporated drum performances by James Cecil of Architecture in Helsinki plus Laurence Pike of Savath + Savalas. Wilczek and Pike also teamed for the improvised live recording Silver Red EP, issued that year on Someone Good Records. In 2009 Qua signed with Mush Records, prompting fresh editions of Q&A alongside the earlier titles Forgetabout and Painting Monsters on Clouds. The label further issued the Goodmorning Sun/Circles remix EP, pairing two tracks from Q&A with an assortment of reinterpretations.
