The Quadrajets, known for their southern trash rock sound, first came together featuring frontman the Cheetah alongside guitarists Roman Hardwick P.I. and Jerome J. Jerome, bassist Catfish Plate, and drummer Red Truth, the last of whom was later succeeded by K.Y. Van Zant. Their debut arrived in spring 1995 on the Sympathy for the Record Industry label with the LP When I Lay My Burden Down, and Alabama Hip Shake followed the subsequent year. After finishing Pay the Deuce in 1998, Van Zant endured paralysis from an auto accident, but the remaining members carried forward with new drummer J.R.R. Tokken to complete When the World's on Fire in 2000. This release stood as the group's final studio album before their 2001 breakup, though they managed to issue the live set If The Good Lord's Willing beforehand. Cheetah and Tokken would later join forces in the punk-blues duo The Immortal Lee County Killers.
