Quentin Mosimann claimed victory in the seventh season of Star Academy, the French television competition styled after American Idol. During the broadcasts he showcased elaborate showmanship while refining a distinctive fusion of jazz and electronica, delivering Taxi Girl’s hit “Cherchez le Garçon” once in a jazzy arrangement and again in an electronic treatment. Both renditions appeared on his debut EP, issued in early summer 2008. Mosimann extended the same two-sided singer approach to his first full-length album, Duel, which arrived in August 2008 and was divided into two clearly contrasting halves. By year’s end Duel had earned gold certification. Mosimann returned in 2010 with his second album, Exhibition, an electro-pop set that reached number seven on the French charts. The 8 Deadly Sins appeared three years later.
