Emerging from Los Angeles in 2000, the experimental metal/noise/punk group Qui took shape around drummer/vocalist Paul Christensen and guitarist/vocalist Matt Cronk. Their opening statement arrived as the album Baby Kisses on the Heart of a Champion imprint in 2003. Jesus Lizard vocalist David Yow entered the fold in 2006 and lent his voice to the single "Today, Gestation," which appeared on Infrasonic Sound Recordings. Later that year the newly expanded trio performed at Austin’s South by Southwest festival, where they crossed paths with Ipecac masterminds Mike Patton and Greg Werckman. The pair promptly signed the band, issuing its first full-length, Love’s Miracle, on September 11, 2007. The following year Yow sustained a punctured lung, placing the project on indefinite hiatus. Christensen and Cronk, operating without Yow, resurfaced in 2014 with the second album Life, Water, Living..., then delivered the five-track EP How to Get Ideas in 2016.
