Biography
Born in Elche, Alicante, Spain, Rafa Vergara works as a songwriter, producer, and vocalist. Displaying skill as both composer and singer from childhood onward, he earned early notice for his command of songcraft along with Andalusian stylistic touches. At eighteen he launched his professional path by issuing the debut solo album Confidencias on the independent label CRIN (Creativos Independientes), an effort that contained ten original compositions. Following substantial radio airplay and widespread performances across Spain, he chose to test his abilities abroad. The move to Miami to cut his second album brought unforeseen opportunities, resulting in commissions to compose for Marc Anthony, Jaci Velasquez, Alejandro Montaner, and Victor Manuel, among additional artists. His material appeared on thirty-five releases and garnered nominations from the Latin Grammys, Billboard, and Premio lo Nuestro. In more recent years he has supplied hit songs to emerging acts including David Bisbal, Kika, Xeronimo, and, above all, Yahir. After gaining prominence on La Academia, Yahir placed one of Vergara’s pieces, “La Locura,” on the 2004 album Otra Historia de Amor; the track turned into a Mexican anthem and remained on the charts for six straight months. Vergara’s second album, Ojo por Ojo, which gathers ten of his strongest compositions, is slated for release on EMI Televisa.
