Biography
Chicago's Raise the Red Lantern takes its name from an award-winning film set in 1920s China, yet the group's sound—an unpredictable amalgam of progressive metalcore and southern sludge—remains 100-percent made in America. Founders Dylan Patterson on guitar and vocals along with Kris Milkent on guitar had already established their reputation as the creators of Emperor Cabinets, the company whose amplifiers are used by major acts including Converge, High on Fire, Baroness, and Pelican, well before the band issued its debut, the descriptively titled 2006 album Thunderf**k. Three years afterward the same pair reconvened alongside Craig Thompson on bass and Jim Patton on drums to deliver the self-titled sophomore release through At a Loss Recordings.
