Blending assorted stylistic elements, Random Noise Generator set out to craft amalgamated sonic textures that fused trash metal with hardcore. Jeff Caywood and Aaron Cooper, both previously of Dirty Politix, joined ex-Obscurity guitarist and singer Mike Grubb in 1998 to launch the band. Cooper later switched to drums while Cory Greer came aboard on bass, completing the rhythm section. The ensemble soon launched its earliest club performances, where the heavy sonic impact drew strong local interest. That same year the group edited its debut album, Bloodlust, which earned widespread notice. Another personnel shift took place in 1999 as Cooper and Greer exited, making way for Andy Carr and Jason Keffer. After a year of steady live appearances the refreshed lineup readied its follow-up, Modern Stain, which reached stores in 2000.
