Biography
From the early 1980s forward, San Francisco native Raquel Bitton has enthralled listeners with her refined approach to French jazz vocals, earning admiration from icons such as Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett. Her worldwide recognition arose chiefly from her striking interpretations of songs linked to French chanteuse Edith Piaf. The 1999 release Sings Edith Piaf presented her flawless vocal artistry on classic material from the 1930s and 1940s, enabling her to frame those pieces within expansive theatrical productions. She further developed her repertoire through stage musicals and dramas, among them Hearts: Le Ballet des Coeurs and Les Enfants du Paradis.
Bitton devoted much of 2000 to her hit presentation Raquel Bitton Sings Edith Piaf, Her Story…Her Songs, appearing at leading concert halls across North America and drawing a sold-out audience for the Carnegie Hall premiere. Her recorded catalog also contains the 1994 album I Wish You Love, the 1996 set Changes, and In a Jazzy Mood, issued three years afterward.
