Ravel

Ravel, known solely by his given name, stands among the leading figures in the Dominican Republic’s present-day music landscape. Having grown up in New York, he has maintained a deep commitment to the dance music of his native country from an early age. Working alongside his group Los Bravos, he has maintained a strong profile in the scene from the middle of the 1990s onward. The initial pair of albums issued under his independent imprint, Como Tu Lo Quieras and Llego El Tipo, marked his first recorded efforts. The latter release proved sufficiently popular to receive a pair of Estrellas del Merengues honors, cited specifically for “most popular orchestra” and “most distinquished artist.” His debut project to appear through a major-label distributor, Alma, Ritmo Y Pueblo, came out via RMM in 1997.
