Biography
The moniker Raw Power originates with the Stooges' landmark 1973 album, and this Italian hardcore punk outfit operates in the mold of nascent American outfits such as Gang Green, D.I., and JFA. Reggio Emilia serves as the group's home base, where brothers Mauro on vocals and Giuseppe Codeluppi on guitar established the unit in 1981; although frequent personnel shifts have occurred across the decades, the Codeluppi siblings have continued as its unchanging nucleus. The first offering, You Are the Victim, surfaced in 1983, while Screams from the Gutter, cut for California's Toxic Shock label, followed two years afterward. An EP called Wop Hour appeared next, its title functioning as a pointed self-mockery, before After Your Brain arrived in 1986 again via Toxic Shock. Additional long-players Mine to Kill in 1989, Too Tough to Burn in 1993, and Fight in 1995 emerged on assorted imprints, yet the band rejoined Toxic Shock—by then renamed Toxic Ranch—for the widely praised Reptile House in 1998. A prosperous American tour came afterward, and Trust Me reached listeners through Hello Records in 2000. To mark two decades of activity, Still Screaming After 20 Years was issued in 2002, yet guitarist and founding member Giuseppe Codeluppi suffered a fatal heart attack while playing soccer just months later. The ensemble paused for two years before reassembling in 2004 to mount a European tour, though further studio activity waited until much later. In April 2010 Beer City Records unveiled the box set The Reagan Years, and that October P.I.G. Records delivered the new studio album Resuscitate, which included two Stooges covers, one of them "Raw Power." Tired and Furious came out in 2014, followed in 2017 by Inferno on Demons Run Amok Entertainment.
