Biography
Rawtekk emerged in the early 2000s as the drum'n'bass project of Hamburg-based sound-design professionals Stefan and Christine Westphal. Their debut single, Your Game, appeared on Destination Recordings in 2006; the following year they issued three separate 12"s via Syndrome Audio, Citrus, and Disturbed. Over the ensuing period the pair maintained a steady output of tech-edged drum'n'bass before securing a firm foothold in the genre with the 2013 album Sprouted and Formed, issued on Med School, the Hospital Records subsidiary. Departing from the template of their prior work, the record introduced a fresh approach that fused their experimental sound-design techniques with elements of both drum'n'bass and dubstep. To promote the album the duo took their live rig across Europe, performing at several venues including the celebrated Fabric club in London. In 2014 they issued the companion remix collection Sprouted and Reformed, featuring reinterpretations of album material by Phace and Billain among others. Rawtekk subsequently returned to the studio for their second full-length, Here's to Them. Ahead of its planned mid-2016 release the album was introduced by the intense drum'n'bass track Harbour.
