Biography
The New York City-based trio Rawyals blends pop sensibilities with contemporary R&B through the voices of Bel Cabrera, Ariel Nicholson, and Asia Shabazz. Industry veteran Kedar Massenburg, who had earlier helped shape the rise of D'Angelo and Erykah Badu, assembled the act and placed it on his Massenburg Media roster, where the members surfaced in May 2015 with the single "King Me." That midtempo cut projected a confident blend drawing from Beyoncé, Ciara, and the underrecognized late-2000s group Electrik Red. A reworked version added a guest verse from Fetty Wap at the height of his "Trap Queen" success. Later the same year, Rawyals released the EP In the Raw.
