Biography
The “sweet” soul trio consisting of Harry Ray, Al Goodman, and Billy Brown first accumulated multiple hits on All Platinum/Stang Records during the early ’70s under the name the Moments. In 1978 the group adopted the name Ray, Goodman & Brown and switched to Polygram, where the poignant ballad “Special Lady” reached the top of the R&B charts in 1979 while climbing to number five on the pop side. They stayed with Polydor through 1981, earning one additional Top 20 entry via “Inside of You” in 1980. Subsequent moves took them first to Panoramic and then to EMI, where “Take It to the Limit” became their final Top Ten single in 1986. The trio also supplied background vocals on Sarah Dash’s 1988 LP You’re All I Need.
