Raz Mesinai, functioning as an illbient and ambient dub composer and programmer inside Sub Dub, produced shimmering and expansive soundscapes ranked among the genre’s most atmospheric creations, frequently laced with unsettling undertones. Following the group’s dissolution he persisted under the Badawi moniker, weaving threads of his Israeli and Middle Eastern background into releases including Badawi Presents Bedouin Sound Clash and Jerusalem Under Fire. The 1999 Badawi full-length The Heretic of Ether marked a shift toward broader orchestral textures and away from explicit dub frameworks. That direction extended into 2001’s The Unspeakable, shaped by Mesinai’s affinity for 20th century composers together with his contributions to the Hellraiser 6 soundtrack, the majority of which remained unused on the grounds that it was "too scary for the movie."
