Biography
Halifax gave rise to indie rock trio Rebecca West in 1994, a name chosen to honor the celebrated English novelist and poet. Bassist Lukas Pearse and drummer Dale Hussey launched the project alongside singer/songwriter Alison Outhit, earning early notice across Nova Scotia through sets that spotlighted Outhit’s punk leanings and Pearse’s habit of playing bass with a steak knife. Their debut CD, Burners On, appeared in 1995. Outhit initially supplied most of the material, yet Pearse and Hussey joined the writing process on the follow-up, Six More Weeks of Winter.
