Brooklyn's Record Heat experienced their initial breakthrough in 2012, as the single "The Black Jack White" gained substantial streaming traction and later appeared in an episode of CSI: NY. The quartet's rousing, genre-bending approach—rooted in funk- and blues-infused rock—fueled gradual growth across subsequent years, culminating in a deal with Atlantic for the 2018 release Born Yesterday.
Established in 2010, the lineup revolves around vocalist/keyboardist Steve Cooper together with guitarist Cal Stamp, bassist Paul Michel, and drummer Ronen Evron. Although the ten-song independent recording The Cost of Living surfaced quickly that same year, the 2012 EP This Is a Test—highlighted by the tracks "The Black Jack White" and "BST FRNDS"—propelled wider recognition. Additional well-received EPs arrived afterward, among them 2016's World War IV, which spotlighted the single "Regular World." Following time on the Universal-distributed Wind-Up Records, Record Heat joined Atlantic in early 2018 and delivered the full-length Born Yesterday, a hard-hitting blend of slick pop and punchy rock grooves. The band returned in 2019 with Reborn Yesterday, a deluxe edition of their debut that included supplemental material.
