Biography
In 1997 the slowcore group Recuerdo took shape in Peoria, Illinois, when Jamie Drier, Tim Boniger, and Josh Bonati came together to start the band. Their first recordings surfaced as a 7-inch single and a split 10-inch issued by the regional independent label Silent Film Soundtracks. Shortly afterward Drier exited to handle bass in the emo outfit Planes Mistaken for Stars. Boniger and Bonati kept the project going and put out the Over the Empire EP in early 2000. The full-length Meramac/Mahomet appeared in 2003, again through SFS. That album introduced full-time drummer Corey Flanagan to Recuerdo and revealed a sharper dream pop direction.
