In 1989 Mickey ‘The Vicar’ Ripley, who handled vocals, joined forces with guitarist Chris John to create this five-piece blues-rooted British rock ‘n’ roll outfit. They completed the lineup by bringing in bassist Mick Young, guitarist Paul Guerin and drummer Stow, then secured a contract with Episode Records in 1990. Their debut release, the six-track Wrong Side Of Town, drew its chief inspiration from the Rolling Stones. The Red Dogs increased their exposure by opening for Cheap And Nasty and UFO throughout the 1991 UK tour circuit. Moving their energetic bar-room boogie to bigger stages met with early success, yet the band proved unable to lift its profile any further in the years that followed. Ripley exited in 1996 and promptly launched Josh.
