Originating from Stockholm, Sweden, Red Fun came together in 1992 as a quartet of seasoned players drawn from the nation’s metal and hard rock circuit. Frontman Thomas Persson, whose vivid red hair inspired the band’s name, had previously sung with Alien, while bassist Tobbe Moen worked extensively as a session musician. Drummer Freddy von Gerber had already performed with Intermezzo, Bam Bam Boys, Rat Bat Blue and Easy Action, and guitarist Kee Marcello—likewise an Easy Action alumnus—was known above all for his tenure in Europe. That same year the group completed its debut album and issued the promotional single ‘My Baby’s Coming Back’. At the time their publicity materials declared an intention to restore ‘some of the hedonism back’ to hard rock after grunge had taken hold. Opening shows for Guns N’Roses and Neil Young in the summer of 1993 placed Red Fun in a strong position to attract devotees of the classic style.
