Biography
Ernest Jansen Ingle entered the world on 7 November 1906 in Toledo, Ohio, USA, and departed on 7 September 1965. During his early years he performed on saxophone with assorted dance ensembles throughout the region of his birth. After entering the well-known group fronted by Ted Weems in 1932, he had established himself as a seasoned session player by the close of the decade. Serving as one of the founding participants in Spike Jones’ celebrated novelty outfit, Ingle chose in 1947 to launch a comparable ensemble under his own leadership. Among the successful discs he issued were ‘Tim-Tay-Shun’ and ‘Cigarettes, Whuskey And Wild, Wild Women’; he also cut sides with Jo Stafford while she assumed one of her numerous comic personas.
