Red Jasper emerged from Bradenstoke in Wiltshire as a group that fused folk-rooted sensibilities with unfiltered heavy metal, evoking an Anthrax project gone rustic. Studio constraints kept their sound somewhat contained, yet onstage they unleashed the full force of guitars, leather, and thunder. Main songwriters Davey Dodds on vocals, mandolin, and tin whistle and Robin Harrison on guitar assembled the project during the 1980s, with Tony Heath handling bass and keyboard alongside Mark Ollard on drums.

Ric Sanders added fiddle and Pat D’Arcy contributed saxophone to the band’s second release, Sting In The Tale. Beginning with the third album, Jonathan Thornton on bass, Lloyd George on keyboards and vocals, and Dave Clifford on drums, percussion, and vocals took the places of Heath and Ollard. Cymberline, a Dutch record label, issued the group’s final album in 1997.
