Redbone formed in Los Angeles as an all-Native American outfit fronted by brothers Pat Vegas and Lolly Vegas, both singers of indigenous heritage who had previously recorded under their individual names and appeared together in the 1965 film It's a Bikini World. Encouraged by Jimi Hendrix, the siblings launched the group before scoring their initial chart entry in 1970 with the Epic single "Maggie." The following year brought a stronger showing via "The Witch Queen of New Orleans," yet the band reached its commercial peak with the platinum-certified "Come and Get Your Love," which climbed to number five on the Billboard Hot 100. That track delivered their widest audience, after which no further hits materialized, although the members continued intermittent recording and live work. In 2008 Redbone received induction into the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame. Six years later the same signature song reached fresh listeners through its prominent placement in the film Guardians of the Galaxy.
