Biography
Reginald Robinson distinguishes himself among contemporaries through his identity as a young Black performer of ragtime piano who has also written dozens of such pieces. He took up the instrument at age 13, then left school a year later to focus entirely on music, learning rags by ear since he had not acquired reading skills. The next year Robinson began formal study and steadily built recognition. Several solo piano albums for Delmark feature his work, with the earliest made at age 20. Nearly every track he has committed to record is an original composition that adheres fully to the classic rag tradition.
