Emerging from Japan toward the end of the 1980s, The Registrators drew inspiration from prominent punk rock acts of the era. Fronted by vocalist Hiroshi together with bassist Ren, guitarist Jun, and drummer Deira, the group began by focusing chiefly on renditions of material from the Damned, the Clash, and the Sex Pistols. In the years that followed, the quartet issued multiple singles and contributed a track to the Japanese punk rock anthology Chloroform. Midway through the 1990s the band delivered its debut full-length release, Terminal Boredom, which carried its songs to expanded listenerships throughout Japan and Europe. The 1998 EP 4 Vibrate further expanded the group’s devoted audience. In 2000 the Japanese outfit unveiled its next major effort, Sixteen Wires From the New Provocate. That same year Rip Off Records issued the first of two anthologies collecting the band’s initial Japanese recordings under the title Singles. Two years afterward, Rare Tracks, another gathering of notable selections from the catalog, reached stores.
