Rein

Rein delivers a melodic brand of Swedish electro-industrial music under its solo banner, blending buoyant hooks with unpolished synthesizer textures, driving rhythms, and an undercurrent of punk defiance. Born in Stockholm to a household steeped in music, Joanna Reinikainen counts '80s singer/songwriter Paul Rein as her father and Swedish House Mafia's Sebastian Ingrosso as her half-brother. At age 13 she began creating tracks after absorbing the wide range of sounds broadcast on MTV.

Reinikainen launched the project in 2016 via a self-titled debut EP whose songs carried confrontational titles such as "There Is No Authority But Yourself," "Can't Handle Me," and "Born to Die." The release's intense, aggressive, and provocative electronic style drew widespread critical acclaim and secured two nominations at the following year's P3 Guld awards. Its singular sonic identity and visual aesthetic that merged toughness with feminine elements drew listeners already familiar with Ayria and Unter Null while also attracting younger audiences outside the established dark-music community.

In the ensuing years she issued singles including "Missfit," "Off the Grid," "Bodyhammer," and "Dystopia," broadening the palette to incorporate rave, synth pop, and rap inflections. Early output appeared on the major Scandinavian independent label Playground before she departed in 2019 to issue material independently. The full-length debut Reincarnated, a conceptual work drawing from the seminal cyberpunk film The Matrix, surfaced in 2020. Two years later an EP of dub remixes by Boys Noize arrived on the producer's own imprint.
