Traditional country singer Rena Gaile earned two nominations from RPM Magazine’s Big Country Awards in the Outstanding New Artist category. The initial nod arrived in 1993 on the heels of her single “Daddy’s School,” while the next arrived three years later after the appearance of her independently released album Out on a Limb. That project, helmed by producer Declan O’Doherty, showcased vocal contributions from David Blamires and Don Neilson, fiddle work by Don Reed, and guitar performances by Steve Piticco, Bernie LaBarge, and Mike Francis. Its lead single, “Better Off Blue,” climbed close to the Top Ten, and the follow-up track “All She Wants” sustained the momentum. In 1997 Gaile received an additional nomination for Female Artist of the Year. Capitalizing on the success of Out on a Limb, she next issued a gospel album produced by her husband, Jim Morgan, which incorporated saxophone and flute from Moe Koffman as well as guitar from Aidan Mason and Jim Tait. Beyond recording, Gaile supports outreach concerts and regularly appears in prisons, churches, and similar venues.
