Biography
Songwriter Reni Lane secured her initial major opportunity in 2009, when “Place for Us,” the opening cut on her first album Ready, was chosen as the theme for VH1’s reality series Secrets of Aspen. Born in Oregon, she relocated to Virginia as a child and stayed there until finishing high school, after which she traveled north to enroll at Columbia University. While based in New York City she started building the groundwork for a songwriting career. Regular appearances at the Sidewalk Café—the Manhattan venue that had earlier supported the rise of Suzanne Vega and Regina Spektor—helped her cultivate a local following, and multiple European tours extended her reach abroad. MTV soon took notice, featuring her in its First Ladies of Rock promotional campaign; that exposure prompted an offer from Custard Records, the British imprint owned by Linda Perry and released through Motown/Universal. Teaming with producers Sam Bisbee and David Pattillo, she completed her studio introduction via the 2010 album Ready.
