Biography
Rev. Johnny L. Jones began preaching at Atlanta’s Second Mount Olive Baptist Church in the late 1950s, where his sermons are interwoven with unrefined gospel performances that occasionally feature R&B- and soul-tinged backing. An Alabama native, Jones had already sung with the Jolly Four Gospel Singers and the Sensational Five Gospel Singers before settling in Georgia. While in Atlanta he hosted programs on WAOK and WYZE, capturing each week’s church service on tape for subsequent broadcast on the two stations. Dust-to-Digital brought out a double-CD anthology drawn from those tapes in 2010, simultaneously issuing the LP Jesus Christ from A to Z that presents alternate material.
