International chamber ensemble Reverso unites three musicians in a refined trio that merges jazz phrasing with classical textures. Their projects have delved into works by French composers, beginning with Maurice Ravel on the 2018 release Suite Ravel, continuing through Gabriel Fauré on 2022’s Harmonic Alchemy, and extending to Lili Boulanger on the 2024 album Shooting Star - Étoile Filante.

The ensemble came together around 2014 in Paris, initiated by Brooklyn-based trombonist Ryan Keberle alongside German-born pianist Frank Woeste and French cellist Vincent Courtois. Before establishing Reverso, Keberle had already earned recognition through his contributions to Maria Schneider’s orchestra and through his own pianoless quartet, Catharsis; outside the trio he maintains an active role in his Brazilian ensemble Collectiv Do Brasil. The group’s recorded debut arrived in 2018 with Suite Ravel, which included drumming by Jeff Ballard and drew directly from Maurice Ravel’s compositions. Their second album, Melodic Line, followed in 2020, and a year later they issued the concert recording Live, captured at Le Triton in Paris.

Harmonic Alchemy returned in 2022 as an in-depth look at Gabriel Fauré’s music, while 2024 brought the fifth Reverso album, Shooting Star - Étoile Filante, centered on Lili Boulanger.
