Biography
Rock Hudson, also known as RH+, emerged from Santiago, Chile, as an electro-pop ensemble that fuses core traits of indie electronica with those of indie pop. Their approach has invited parallels to Air and Stereolab on one side and to Broken Social Scene and Belle & Sebastian on the other. The project began in 2000 under the name the Most Urban, then adopted the Rock Hudson identity in 2003; the RH+ billing later functioned chiefly for North American audiences. Its members include Ximena Muñoz (aka Nera; vocals), Fernando Lasalvia (vocals, rhythm guitar, bass, keyboards), Pedro Comparini (drums, keyboards, vocals, turntables), Sebastian Vazquez (lead guitar), and Jorge Manieu (bass). Working with producer Gabriel Vigliensoni, Rock Hudson delivered their first full-length album, El Elela, in 2004. After a series of international concerts supporting the release, highlighted by an award-winning appearance at the Diesel U Music Festival in Milan, Italy, the band signed with the Chilean label La Oreja, which reissued El Elela in 2005. The same company then issued the second album, Quintana Roo (2006), again produced by Vigliensoni together with DJ Bitman. Several years afterward, Nacional Records licensed Quintana Roo for worldwide distribution in 2009.
