Richard Lainhart works as an avant-garde composer and performer focused on ambient electronic music while also pursuing filmmaking. His initial recognition came in 1974 through the release of White Night, a 29-minute ambient piece that appeared before Brian Eno issued his pioneering ambient album Discreet Music in 1975. Among his output, the standout release remains Ten Thousand Shades of Blue from 2001, which compiles his earlier material across two CDs covering the 1970s and 1980s.
