Richard Lugo, a Latin pop singer, entered the world in New York before being raised in Miami. As the son of Dominican Republic-born Latin music promoter Richard de Jesús Lugo and Altagracia Maritza Lugo, the young performer began singing during elementary school after joining a vocal group. Participation in a talent contest at the age of 13 led to an introduction to writer/producer Dallas Austin, who signed him and oversaw the recording of his first demo in 1999. The following year brought an opening slot for BBMack, after which he toured alongside O-Town. His song "Boom" was used by the New York Giants at the Superbowl in 2001.
