River Becomes Ocean, a post-hardcore ensemble rooted in France and Germany yet operating from Brighton, England, craft a visceral sound marked by deep cinematic qualities. The group cultivated a loyal international audience across the mid-2010s through two self-released EPs before delivering their debut full-length album, A Motion Paralysed, in 2019 on the German imprint Department Musik.

The four musicians assembled in late 2013, with Marvin McMahon on vocals and keys, Danny Snow handling guitar and backing vocals, Ben Bartup on guitar, and Dorian Neidhardt on drums. Their first recordings surfaced in March 2014 as the five-song EP The World Around Me. That project gained early traction in North America through the single "What If I Stay," which carried a guest vocal from Shane Told of the Canadian screamo outfit Silverstein. Their next EP, December, followed in 2016, produced by Sam and Joe Graves of Asking Alexandria and Yashin renown, and it further broadened the quartet’s worldwide reach. After those independent efforts, River Becomes Ocean joined the Department Musik roster and released their first album, the bleak yet powerful A Motion Paralysed, in 2019.
