Biography
River County, the honky tonk country-rock outfit, first assembled in their native Whiteland, IN, during a high-school talent competition. Derek Wylie took the lead vocals, Chris Presley handled lead and rhythm guitar plus background vocals, and Jake Hehman manned the keyboards; after claiming victory at that event, the band kept performing at graduation parties, further talent shows, and hog roasts until they graduated to clubs, county fairs, and opening slots for national acts passing through the state. Over time they shaped a high-energy rock and country style equal parts Charlie Daniels, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rascal Flatts, and Creedence Clearwater Revival, with a touch of Tony Joe White added in. The group cut its debut album, Rockin' the Country, in Nashville alongside producer Terry Wendt, issuing the record in 2008.
