Beginning his musical path in the Minneapolis region toward the end of the 1970s, R.J. (Robert) Mischo combined singing with harmonica playing. During that period and in that setting he performed alongside established blues artists such as Muddy Waters sideman Mojo Buford, Percy Strother, and Milwaukee Slim. He also led his own groups, among them Blues Deluxe and the R.J. & Kid Morgan Blues Band, which included guitarist Teddy Morgan and singer Percy Strother. The 1992 album Ready to Go, issued with the latter ensemble, received widespread acclaim that persists because of its distinctive quality. While based in Minneapolis he earned several nominations from the Minnesota Music Academy, securing the Best Harmonica Player honor in 1996. Gonna Rock Tonight came out in 1994. After completing several European tours he reorganized the band as R.J. Mischo and His Red Hot Blues Band. Rough and Tough and Cool Disposition were completed prior to his 1998 relocation to San Francisco, where West Wind Blowin' was recorded the following year. He and the group continue to appear regularly throughout the bay area while also touring the U.S. and Europe.
